1994 Pontiac Grand Am
Every year, innovations among the Grand Am models are redefined to better provide
answers to consumers changing needs. In the 1994 Grand Am, changes concentrated
in a driver-side airbag, putting a new V6 engine and a new automatic transmission
adding spice to it's best-selling models. To replace the other year's 160-horsepower
3.3-liter V6 as an option on models is a 3.1-liter V6 rated at 155 horsepower,
which comes with a 4-speed automatic. But despite the changes, especially having
the airbag, this new Grand Am retains its door- mounted front seatbelts that can
be left buckled for automatic deployment as "passive" restraints.
In this year's Grand Am, optional features includes a power sunroof to add to
its exterior, and in addition to the power driver's seat introduced in 1992, 94
models goes with a leather seats to add to its interior designs. Instead of the
3-speed automatic transmission, the 1994 Grand Am can have an optional 4-speed
automatic OD transmission. Its engine features have been modified with the 3.1
L 6 Cylinder that goes with only 155 hp. Another good news from this year's Grand
Am is the additional of the driver's air bag to its standard safety features.
In July 01, 1994, General Motors have recalled 1,681 vehicles with defects in
fuel system and tank assembly. These vehicles were said to haven't complied with
Fuel System Integrity and can result in an increased risk of a vehicle fire in
the event of rear collision. Another recall was made in October 2nd of this year.
The problem was in the starter assembly and the affected units involved were estimated
to be 699, 617. The defects could result to interior fire starting from the steering
column in the even5t of failure in the engine starter.
